Default Debt Collection Letter in My Mail from Previous Employer for Contract Breach

    Hello,

I have a letter from collection agency based in FL and I am based in CA, the creditor who raised this claim at the collection agency is also based in CA. I was employed by this employer 2 years back and had signed a contract with them saying that they will train me for few weeks after which they will place me on some assignment and if I leave before any assignment I will owe them some money. They have now raised this with a collection agency and I have this letter from collection agency.

This is first time every I am dealing with debt collections, really appreciate some help and guidance. How do I handle this case, can I dispute the claim ??? is it safe to ignore this letter ??? How worse can this get ??? The employer does not have any proof of him giving me any training other than the contract I signed.

Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks !!!

The contract is all he needs in terms of proof.

The bigger question is, "Is the contract enforceable?" Given that we can't read the contract, your best bet is to run it by a local attorney.

Thanks !!! I am consulting lawyers, some lawyers say they should have paid me during the training which I was not so I can counter claim but bigger question is how do I handle the collections department to avoid this hitting my credit report whats the best way to deal with this. There is no law suit yet so what should be the next step..Again Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
