I work for a medical transport company. At times they will have a crew on what they call "Just in time" Basically what this means is that the crew comes to the station to check in, but only gets paid $3.33/hr. The crew is not required to stay at the station, but must stay within a 15 minute response time to the station. If the crew gets dispatched to a call, they receive time and a half (of the regular hourly rate) until they are finished with the call. Once they are finished with the call the rate goes back to $3.33.

There was never any mention of this and it is not in the employee handbook.

I am just curious if this is legal and why/why not. It just doesn't seem right to me. I have been trying to find an answer but haven't had any luck.
