Fraternity Demands Unpaid Dues

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California

How can I obtain a copy of the fraternity initiation and financial obligation contract from 4 years ago? I want to see if I am binded for the duration of my enrollment at the university. Do most of these contracts legally bind a member to pay dues for more than a year or until graduation?

After I made it apparent I wanted to be removed 2 year in, they still paid for my head to headquarters for a year. Now they are threatening to take me to court for almost a thousand dollars in unpaid dues and fees. No I have not signed any contracts stating I owe the fraternity UNPAID dues. Only the initiation contract but I don't know the exact wording.

have you asked the frat for a copy of the contract you signed since it would appear you lost yours?

If nothing else, if they sue you you can demand they produce a copy of it.

How did you make your interest in being removed known? Typically there is paperwork to fill out in order to be officially removed, which has to be done before the annual or biannual headquarters dues.

Only the initiation contract but I don't know the exact wording.

I guess it's never too early to learn not to sign anything without keeping a copy.
