I'm not going to fluff it up. I accidentally slipped a $2.99 pair of earrings in my bag while looking at something else at a discount store, looked around some more, and walked out. About 2 feet away from my car I was stopped and the woman asked to give back the stolen merchandise. I remembered and instantly offered to pay/give it back. She called the cops, wrote up at report, cops called my parents, figerprinted, mugshot, ect. I wasnt taken to the police department or handcuffed. This is the first time I've ever been in the system. No tickets, previous offences, nothing.
Questions:
1. I technically wasn't arrested, right?
2. Is there anything I can do to make the store drop their case?
3. What will they do to me in terms of consequences?
I live in florida.
This is all a really big, stupid mistake. They caught it on camera though.
Oh, when my dad came and they wouldnt let him into the room, he told them he was an attourney, and they slammed the door and joked around "attourney, ha. I don't give a sh**." Does this make a difference?
