Question Caught Stealing and Headed to Court

So I Stole a $1.35 Soda pop. I didn't mean too. What happened was I drove to the store and was planning on buying a soda. Well I got to the store and went to their soda fountain and filled up a cup. Well I started walking back to the cash register and realized half way across the store that I didn't have my wallet. So instead of setting it down or giving it to a cashier while I ran home I just walked out of the store with it. I know I shouldn't have. But sadly I did. I went to my car and was debating on going back in and giving it to an employee. Well before I got the chance an employee came out and asked me if I had a receipt for it. At first I lied because I was panicking. Then he asked me to come inside with him so I did. Once we were inside I admitted that I had stolen it and it was a mistake. He called the police and they came and gave me a paper stating that I needed to call the court house and set up a date to come in and see a judge. I did and went in about a month ago. Well I was so stressed that I couldn't think straight. I am a female over the age of 18. This is my first offence. I have no idea about my rights or anything that is involved in the court system. So I just figured I plead guilty. The Judge asked me if I had been charged with any other crimes and I told him no. He then asked me if I would like to speak to a court appointed attorney. I told him I don't know. Again I was really really stressed out. I am pregnant and just made a horrible mistake and regret it deeply. Well then he told me "lets see what we can do so you are able to get a job soon after this." So then we decided that I would come back at a later date and meet with the attorney. Well that is today and this whole past month I have been stressing so bad that it has made me sick. It is not good for my baby. I am just wondering what do you think the judge will do? I really don't want to go to jail.. I will do anything I need to do not to go to jail. That is my main worry right now. I am currently not working so I don't really have a way to pay off any fines unless I borrow some money from a friend or family member. Do you think he will give me a fine and take a shoplifting class? Or make me do community service? Again I will do anything that I need to do to make this right...

is there a diversion program available? that could be an option.

waiting 2 hrs before court to look into things is always best, right?

did you hear the judge? talking about future employment? huh?

i don't care if you re preggers ... you need to seek out a lawyer, you have zero idea what you are doing or how it will affect you or your child in the future.

First you tell us what state you are in. It makes a difference.

If I'm following you right, you should be meeting with the attorney before you have to face the judge again.
