Dismissed today for attendance issue.
Just received F1 today ironically.
What are my options?
Transfer if possible?
How does this effect I-20?
How can I get back into status for F1?
Thank you in advance![]()

Your options are to get into a school or go home. The consequence of your expulsion is that your SEVIS status is updated to "terminated", your I-20 becomes invalid and, once you depart, you will need to petition for a new initial I-20 in order to return to the U.S as an F-1 student. If the school that expelled you will consider allowing you to re-enroll, and you meet all other required criteria (including a determination that the events leading to the termination of your I-20 were not preventable), you may be able to get your I-20 reinstated.
Thank you.
Yes, DSO said 30 days to leave.
Something about 5 months if I apply for new I-20. I'm assuming that has to be done within the 30 day window?
Thank you
I'm not sure where 30 days comes from. When you are expelled and your SEVIS status is terminated, you would normally have fifteen days.
I don't where the 30 days comes from either, but that's what she said.
Ah well, I'm seeing a lawyer on Wednesday.
Thanks for your help friend.
Any other views, strategies or options are welcome.
Best
Go home before you incur illegal status and a ban.
I've been writing in the first person, but this is actually for my babe. My family got here in the 1640s. I'm no Liberal, but I'm sure not everyone needs to just "go home" when things get difficult. We have 30-40 million illegals living here that are looking pretty good to get status. So, I'm looking for some real answers, not editorial
So what are you doing here? The purpose of a legal forum is not to assist you in evading the law. You pay an immigration attorney to do that.
Once you are dismissed, many schools will not allow you to enroll since ou are not "in good standing" with your previous institution.
You should study in your home country and prove that you are capable of doing the work before attempting entry to another university.
