My question involves name change laws in the State of: North Carolina
Alright so I am an adult in North Carolina who desires to change my name due to personal reasons. I am not trying to change my name for criminal purposes, I just don't respect my birth given name. Unfortunately North Carolina state law dictates that I must first file a petition and have two affidavits of good character however, I must get it notarized. This is the hard part because lets be honest it is a gigantic hassle to take two of my friends and go to bank sit down in front of a notary and have them verify they are who I say they are, by asking them questions and sign my petition for name change. Most of my friends feel uncomfortable being interrogated by a notary. I believe it is unfair that I must rely on two other people to change my name as it is my right to change my name, why should i rely on somebody's signature? What should I do? I intend to file suit against this law.
