My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Florida
So two months before I moved out of my first apartment I went to drop off my month's rent and notify the company that I was going to leave in two months. I knew I had to notify them but I wasn't sure what they required for that, like if they needed a form or whatever. So I asked the secretary what I had to do to notify them and she said she would. I felt a bit iffy about that but just assumed that was how they operated. When I went to turn in my keys they couldn't find paperwork for me leaving and this is when I started worrying. However I explained the situation to them and they were just like "Oh, so that's what happened" and didn't mention anything to me about me being charged for it. So now it is a bit over a month and I finally receive a notice billing me for ~$200 dollars. That is my security deposit(which was one month's rent when I started renting) minus one current month's rent(which was slightly higher than when I started renting) for failure to give notice and a $150 administration fee. No charges for other damages are listed. I know I probably don't have a leg to stand on here because of the lack of a paper trail but it really sucks to be down about $1000 over trusting a company's secretary to understand their own policies.
