My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: CA
My daughter is a new homeowner and she needed to have a contractor come out to clear a blockage out of main sewage line. Upon examination, the contractor said that the entire pipe needed to be replaced and that he couldn't "camera" the lines bc the tree roots were so bad and were obstructing his view. This property is in rural part of the county and is situated on approx. 1/2 acre +, with septic and propane tanks. Anyway she hired him and his crew at $25,000 to do the job. Well, one of his employees got fired for not going along with the apparent scam and contacted her to inform her that the contractor had lied and cheated me about what was needed to be done on this job, and that she didn't need all that work, just a blockage that could have been cleared, no tree roots. She went over to the employee's house last night and got a written statement, who is also trying to get his final paycheck from the guy. The whole episode is surprising since this is a major contractor in San Diego County. What should she be doing at this stage? She has the hand written statement from the ex-employee, but doesn't know how to proceed. Thank you for any advice you can give her. She is most appreciative.
