I live in San Diego, CA. Across the street from my condo there's a Doctor's office with a small parking lot. Me along with everyone else in the neighborhood uses this parking lot to park their cars after hours. There's a church next door that uses it as well after hours. Everyone parks all over this lot, including non designated spaces(blocking cars in designated spaces), the handicapped spot and the area next to the handicapped spot with the blue lines. I've been parking in the lot after business hours for months. Today I parked my car on the blue lines next to the handicapped spot, the area that handicapped people can use to enter the Doctor's office which was closed today. 'No Parking' is painted on the ground there but like I said, people have been using this spot after business hours as long as I can remember.
I got a ticket today from San Diego, PD. Probably the first person to ever get a ticket in that spot. And it ain't cheap. The ticket says I was parked in a crosshatched area. The only real discrepancy I see on the ticket is that the time is wrong. It says I was parked at 10:13 but I wasn't there till after 11. I'm sure they take plenty of pictures though.
I'd rather pay a lawyer the $450 or even give it to the doctor's office to get them to give me a letter of consent to park there after hours on that day than to give it to the city of san diego.
Do I have any option here other than to pay the ticket?
