Default Shoplifting and Intervention in Lieu of Conviction

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio

I received a call last night notifying me that my daughter was in jail for shoplifting. She's in Ohio (Warren Cty) and we are in North Carolina. Today she called and said her
court date is next week and asked me to post bail of $100 and I told her no. She and her boyfriend were caught shop lifting $40 in merchandise from Home Depot. I suspect this was to support a drug habit. I read on line that Ohio has a diversion or ILC (Intervention in lieu of conviction) program. Can someone explain how she would request the ILC when going to court? She will be confined until her court date. Also she has a prior misdemeanor and felony drug charge from another state (N). Thanks in advance for your advice.

I think that your daughter may be fibbing to you. Its quite rare for the police to actually haul someone off to jail for shoplifting and even rarer to keep them in jail until they appear for court. Its far more common for the police to give them a citation and release them on their own recognizance. I suspect that the crime was more than just shoplifting.

In many cases, a collect call from a jail will warn the person receiving the call, before it is accepted, that it is being placed from a jail. No matter what the facts are, though, I would not send any money I was not prepared to never see again.

    To llworking:
I went to the municipal court webpage and looked up her criminal case as she had a video arraignment today. It said she has a fee of $65, I'm not sure if this is a court fee or total amount owed from her theft. Also below are the notes posted on her case.
