    Default Contractor Hired Unlicensed Subcontractors

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California

I hired a General contractor to do a job at my house and he hired an unlicensed sub to do the work. It is not up to my expectations and I plan on taking him to court, do I look for a lawyer who specializes in construction law? or civil law? thank you for any help

What was the job the unlicensed sub working on?

For your suit, the guide is not your expectations but the contract.

Most attorneys who do litigation can handle a run-of-the-mill contract breach. If the problem is technical or very expensive, you might need an attorney who specializes in construction.

Who are you looking at suing? I would have to presume NOT the sub but the contractor you hired. That is who you have a contract with and who is obligated to satisfy the contract.

As as to the sub not being licensed: depending on the relationship between them and the primary contractor, there are ways for a sub to work under another contractors license. That issue would have to be investigated before determining if there is anything wrong with the situation. Since they are only a sub, I am not certain it makes any difference in your situation anyway.
