Lightbulb Stop Sign Has No Limit Line

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of:California Stop sign no limit line
So I got pulled over for running a stop sign (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d01/vc377.htm). The thing is there was no limit line and no stop written on the road. Legally speaking does anyone know I am at fault because of the absence of a limit line? They just painted the limit line and stop on the road a couple weeks ago. So it shows there was a need for a limit line and stop written on the road

Why did you fail to observe and obey the stop sign? Because while technical noncompliance with the MUTCD and regulations can create a defense to a ticket, it's not a guarantee that you'll win.

Bad weather was an issue along with the fact it was night and the stop sign is easy to miss

I've driven in bad weather. The lines on the road are much easier to miss than big, red, octagonal, reflective stop signs.

I'm afraid you are out of luck.

VC 22450. (a) The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop at a limit line, if marked, otherwise before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection.

If there is no limit line or crosswalk, the driver shall stop at the entrance to the intersecting roadway .

I shall reiterate what L-1 wrote:

Stop before entering the intersection pursuant to VC 22450(a).

I'm still curious as to whether there is something that actually makes the stop sign more difficult to see than would normally be the case, but....
