Default Recording "No Conviction" Although Found "Guilty"

    Hi,

I make a research, and I hope someone could help me:

My research deals with recording "no conviction", although the defendant was found guilty and got a punishment of community service hours.

I know that this situation is possible under the law of several countries over the world.

However, I got lost while trying to find out if this situation is possible in the U.S.

My question refers both to state law and federal law.

I'll be grateful for any help.

Laws vary by state. it is possible for somebody to be convicted of a crime, but have the court refrain from entering the conviction or set aside the conviction upon the defendant's satisfying certain conditions. The rest depends on the facts and state law.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

Could you please name one or two States for example (or give me any reference)?
I need to analyze this subject (I'm a student and I volunteer in the Criminal Clinic).
