I am an US permanent resident since 1985. As I live fully--graduated from college and became professional--the idea of becoming US citizen was never a priority for me until very recently. What stopped me to apply for US citizen in the past was I'm a gay man, and, before DOMA struck down, I was afraid I'd be turned down and never have another chance to apply again. Some of my friends told me that I don't have to disclose that I'm gay, but that is a lie and I'm not very good at that. Beside, if the INS starts looking into my life while processing the application they can easily figure out that I'm gay. And to make it more complicated I recently just got married, thanks to NY marriage equality laws.
Marriage aside, is it OK -- now that DOMA is gone -- for me to apply for US citizen as an openly gay US permanent resident? Would my marriage have any effect on my application?
Thank you for reading, and looking forward to your advice!
