My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia.
One of my friends stole some Crest whitestrips from a walmart. He wasn't apprehended when he left, but he still stole them. he told me that he would go to the dental aisle in the store, throw about 10 boxes in the cart. Then he'd shop in the store and put a bunch of other stuff in the cart. As he went on, he'd put the whitestrips in a walmart bag, and he'd pay for the other stuff. However, a man who was not wearing a walmart uniform approached his sister almost a week later when she was in the store. he apparently knew my friend's name. He wanted to know if my friend lived with his sister. She asked who he was, and he said that he's associated with the store. She asked what this was about, and he wouldn't tell her (I think it's obvious, though). She wouldn't answer any of his questions, so they parted ways. My friend is freaking out because he thinks he might get arrested. he doesn't know how they know his name because he never gave it to anyone in walmart. I think he might've been caught via a security camera, but my friend said he did it a few other times in the same spot, and he thinks there was a camera blindspot. Can they still have him arrested? The amount of money those boxes were worth were about...a few hundred bucks. I told him to talk to a lawyer, but he said the reason he did this is because he didn't have money and he was gonna sell the boxes, so he doesn't have money just to talk to an attorney. Can anyone here help
