Default Paying a Retail Theft Ticket

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

Quick question, if I pay a shoplifting ticket fine of $100.. That is good as an admission of guilt so DOES that mean I dont need to go to court?

well, the police who gave me the ticket told me that if I were still in Illinois (since i'm visiting from a diff. country) I CAN go and have them lessen the value of the fine but he told me that it wouldn't matter anyway since I admitted to doing it.

So i'm confused, does that mean I'm off the hook once I pay the fine?

    HELP PLEASE!

Pay the fine. They *may* still pursue criminal charges if you do, but they *WILL* pursue criminal charges if you don't. Those are the chances you take when you steal.

This isn't described as a civil demand - it's described as a ticket issued by the police.

The OP chose not to identify the statute cited on the ticket, but it could be that paying the fine amounts to a guilty plea on a misdemeanor. The details matter.

If the police issued the ticket, it would be considered a legal admission of having committed a crime to pay it. If store security issued some sort of pre-notice to a civil infraction coming via mail (due to OP being out of country), that is not handled by a court and usually payment resolves the issue.
