Default Sealing records or getting them pardoned

From what I have been reading in this section it is pretty hard getting a record expunged. I live in IL and am trying to get my record cleared up (a felony class 3 theft) and have not been able to get ahold of an attorney. I have been to the sites that have been posted and find them very informative (thanks everyone).

My question is this: Does anyone know the chances of having a felony class 3 theft actually sealed, expunged, pardoned ect.? I want it removed or sealed but do not want to attain a lawer if it is pretty much a shot in the dark. Has anyone in IL actually had a felony class 3 theft sealed, ect? Are their any documented cases of someone having it done?

If there is could someone plz post the case and the outcome. Your help is very much appreciated.

Also can someone please tell me the difference between sealing, expunging, and a pardon?

See if you can get a free consultation with a lawyer, who can assess the odds for your particular case.

Speaking generally: When a record is sealed, the record is placed under seal. When it is expunged, part or all of it is destroyed. A pardon comes from the governor's office and relieves you of some or all of the consequences of being convicted, but may not affect your record.

Anything can show up in a background check, depending upon when and how the information was collected.
