If you were a minor, the likelihood is that your juvenile record would be sealed. But since you're an adult, that's not a likely outcome.

I don't know the law in your state for expungement, but it will be likely be several years before that can happen, if at all. So I would definitely follow Pandy's suggestions.

I'm not saying don't go to college. Worst case is you may have to re-think your degree.

Find out about the Diversion Program....that would basically put you on probation for a time and then wipe your record clean. If you get that program....you could still do whatever your intended degree is.

Let's get through court, and then make that decision. I'm going to PM you my personal email addy. So once we know what happens in court, contact me directly.

I don't know do that for very many....I can tell you are scared and remorseful.

Knock off the self-pity act. You were ALL cognizant of what you were doing, and now it's time to pay the piper for the dance.
I've GOT to agree with this, especially given that with all this "we're good people" crap, it comes out later that stepmom ALREADY has a record. What did she do to get that other misdemeanor?

I decided to give OP some credit based on 3 things, 1. She has obviously suffered in the role model category. 2. She appears to be teetering on the precipice between that of a trashy common thief and that of an up and coming member of society. 3. She has not gone off on a self righteous the world owes me diatribe. I would like to see the up and coming member of society prevail.

CourtClerk: By asking this question, it only means you haven't read my posts thoroughly or you've yet to fully comprehend the contents of what I wrote. Either way, it does not matter. Whether I'm putting up an act on this forum or not--or if you were to pity me or not--it will still not harm or benefit me in any way. Therefore if you think at this point I'd still want to give you "crap", with all due respect, I have nothing else to say. Therefore I thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread, but I'm sorry I will not answer your question.

LawResearcherMissy: Thank you. I gave what you wrote a lot of thoughts last night. I could sense your intentions were kind and what you've said served as a good reminder to me. I might be dumb enough to shoplift, but I'm smart enough to know life goes on no matter what. I can't and will not let one mistake lead to even more mistakes. As I've stated before, my dream is to dedicate the rest of my life to medicine. I will keep pursuing that despite how hard it's going to be, and prove to society that I have truly learned my lesson and that I'm not a harm to any one.

Cbg: Thank you for letting me know this! I did some research after reading what you wrote and found out that juvenile records are indeed sealed after one turns 18. That is good news for my sister. I can put her at ease now.

PandorasBox: I owe most to you on here. Not only have you given some really good information, but you've advice me without judgement as well. Thank you for understanding and appearing when I really just need someone to talk to. I will indeed keep contact with you!

I will no longer reply to this thread--as some people have concluded that I'm asking for pity. I apologize if it seems that way. That was not my intention, but I know you probably won't believe me anyways. So it's best that I just stay away. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read my thread and replying to it.

Remember also: Bracelets are not a necessity.

Goodwill, Salvation Army have good used clothing.

You may have a local Women's Resource Center with business clothing.
