My question involves criminal law for the state of: AZ
Several months ago my daughter and I were shopping at beauty supply store. I purchased a rewards card which required me to complete name, address, etc.
We made our purchase, left the store and spent several hours running errands. When we returned home, there was a message from the police. I called back and was advised I was accused of stealing hair dye. I agreed to meet the officer near the store
I showed her what we purchased, allowed her to search my vehicle. She said she had one witness who saw me steal. My daughter was with me and knew what we purchased and we did not steal. I do not steal so the accusation really bothers me.
I received a summons and am not sure what the initial hearing will involve. Should I retain an attorney, what occurs at an initial hearing?
I plan on bringing my daughter with me just in case.
The whole thing was weird. The police officer kept pushing me to go in and pay but couldn't tell me what exactly had been taken other than t hey believed hair dye, a dollar amount (which they later said was about $60) or how much merchandise was missing. She kept reiterating she had a witness, and when I said I had one too (my daughter) she became very rude. The only thing I know about this witness is they live 100 miles away from this town.
I would just like guidance on how to proceed, what to expect, etc.
Thank you
