    Default Discrimination vs. Favoritism

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: AZ

The company I work for has a policy for bereavement leave of 3 days paid, but has extended that policy to 5 days paid for certain employees because they are friends. Is that legal?? I am aware that favoritism is not illegal, but it seems like that is discriminating the rest of us.

    Completely legal.

Unless who gets the extra days is determined by the race, religion, national origin, or other characteristic protected by law of the employee in question, it's quite legal. Not all or even most discrimination is illegal.

Company has the rights to provide some extra privileges and benefits to some employees based on their merits and efficiency. That's not illegal.
The company has the right to discriminate as long as it is not based on a few select circumstances. Merit may or may not have anything to do with the "discrimination."

And perhaps that employee has been there longer.
