My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia.
On, 8/04/12 I was caught with a blunt of marijuana. I believe that that search was illegal but I was in school and didn't have the finances nor the time to dispute it. I was released on summons and given a court date for 9/06/12. There, the judge suspended my license, gave me 24 hours probation, court fees, and a 10 week first offenders class with Virginia ASAP. I was supposed to do the classes in Lynchburg Va., where the offense happened but since I was in school in Norfolk, the judge allowed the classes to be transferred to Virginia beach. I completed the 10 week class but was only able to pay $70 of the $400 fee for the class because I was working two jobs already just to pay my tuition and was still not making enough. This may I came home, and started working two better jobs and am currently doing my community service now. I have not gotten in trouble since the incident and have tried numerous times to contact my case manager and the ASAP office to try and explain my situation and have gotten no response.. If they have reported me for non-compliance, I wouldn't know because they only had my school address on file. What are my chances of trying to straighten this out and if not how can I try and avoid jail time?
