My question involves juvenile law in the State of: New Hampshire
Recently I was spending the day on the pemi river in Plymouth, NH. Around that part of the river there is a "no open container" of alcohol law. While sitting on the beach a friend and I were drinking a beer, after only finishing half of it an undercover cop came up and asked for our IDs. We admitted to the officer that both my friend and I were only 17. The officer took our information, took our beers and dumped them out, and had us get up and we were told we were being arrested for unlawful possession of alcohol, and open container. The officer told us we were being arrested even though those charges are only citations. We were taken to the police station by cruiser and booked. It is my first time being in trouble with the law.
My questions are:
1) Would it be in my best interest to plead not guilty in court?
2) Is there any type of deal I could make with the prosecutor (like the fast program) to get a lesser fine?
