Default Is it a Crime to Use Fake Letterhead to Produce False Correspondence From My School

My question involves education law in the State of: New York

If I used a fake letterhead from my school to pretend I had to attend classes so I could be off from my Job is that a crime? The job did call the school and verified it was a fraudulent letter. The school wants to have a meeting Thursday should I be worried?

    Yes, you should be worried.

I would plan on, at the very least, being fired from your job. You will not be collecting Unemployment. And you will not be getting a good recommendation from the employer.

The school: They can have cops there to arrest you for forgery. Since your meeting is tomorrow....get a Criminal Defense Lawyer on speed dial, if police try to question you - do not speak to them without a lawyer present. You just say "I want my lawyer" and shut up.

Also..expect to be kicked out school, too.

Yes. It's basic forgery. You're in some serious hot water.

As Pandy notes, expect to lose your job and be ineligible for UI (because the termination will be for cause), and expect to be kicked out of school. Expect also to have a hard time gaining admission into any other school, as most have honor codes that students are expected to abide by.

What in the world was so important to be off work for, that you were will willing to end up with a criminal record for it?
