Default Can You Get Away With Misrepresenting Your Employment History

I was terminated from my previous employer. I decided to use a reference checking service to find out what they might say about me. The service Allison-Taylor had been recommended by several sites. The report revealed that the only information given out was work dates, salary and position. Any other questions about performance, why I wasn't there or anything else weren't answered due to company policy.

It seems that based on this if I'm not asked about why I left then nothing needs to be said. I could even make up some other story and no one would find out.

Any thoughts? Is that a good idea? How long does a company check last?

Nobody here is going to tell you to lie.

All we can talk about is how the law looks at this. So, if you lie, and the prospective employer finds out you lied, you can be legally fired/denied the job.

It is a horrible idea and can get you into all kinds of trouble.

You have absolutely no idea how easy it is for an employer to find out information about their employees - often when they're not even looking for it. I've had information fall into my lap without my even opening my mouth.

Can I guarantee that you'll be caught? No, of course I can't. But I sure as shooting can't guarantee that you won't, either - not by a long shot. And if you are, that's not only grounds for immediate termination but then you get to explain to the NEXT employer how you were fired for falsifying your application. Try getting a new job with that in your history.
