    so if i pay these fines does that mean that they would drop the charges and i wont be charged/convicted for shoplifting?

    No this is seperate from court case. State law allows stores to send what is called a "Civil Demand". This is monies outside of court fines etc and yes if you dont pay it they can take you to court and ask for much more including legal fees! Sounds as though you were caught shoplifting. Listen do as previous poster said pay the money. If you cannot pay entire sum contact whoever wrote you letter and make payment arrangemnts. I have NEVER seen where a payment plan was not accepted if reasonable. Keep in mind if you fail to make payments they can still take you to court and sue you for much more!
