Default Can You Sue Over a Threat to Make False Statements

My question involves defamation in the state of: Virginia

A person that was recently terminated form the company I work at has harassed me via text messages. In some of these messages he threatens to tell people at my work and at hers that she was once a stripper/prostitute. She works security in a gated community and i'm afraid this could cause her problems at work. I already met with the magistrate and out a summons to appear in court for harassing phone calls.

Well, until this guy actually tells your wife's work that she was a stripper and/or prostitute, you've done about all you can do.

What action can I take IF he does decide to drag my wifes name through the dirt? She has been at the company for a long time and they will probably dismiss it as a false rumor but who wants that rumor around the work place or around town.

It's a waste of time to try to figure out what action SHE might be able to take in a set of hypothetical circumstances that have not happened yet. If something does happen, have HER come back her with the exact situation and we'll be able to tell HER what action SHE can take under that set of circumstances.

And just to be clear, since it hasn't actually been said...she was NEVER a stripper/prostitute, right?
