    Default Retail Fraud Database

Does anyone know which stores use the retail fraud database (i think bam metioned it in one of his/her posts)? Specifically, would I be put on this if the store in question a. did not prosecute b. did not fine c. just took down my address and name.... ?

Do most employers (i.e. even those not retail based) use this check on current employees?

Lots of question and sadly your not going to get any real answers. Let look at each one

Does anyone know which stores use the retail fraud database (What if I told you Sears did? It would mean nothng because not all Sears would. Like any store not all have or use same up to date tools, methods etc. So where your local Penneys may use this data base the Penney a few miles away may not. )

would I be put on this if the store in question a. did not prosecute b. did not fine c. just took down my address and name.... ? (Answer to all of this is yes or maybe! If store placed you in this database then they did. Perhaps its automatic once they write report? All they would need is name address for this purpose. However if not prosecuting I dont see why they would do this as there is no record of prosecution since they did not press charges.

all your questions have no real answers and I realize thats not what your looking for. I wonder why this concerns you? Are you planning a theft? Have you recently been caught stealing?

I was recently caught shoplifting. They did not prosecute. I am just worried somehow my current employer will find out. Should I be concerned?

No, they don't know. They just told me that the employer wouldn't find out (when I asked)... and that my name and address will be kept internally (so they have it if I ever get caught again).

That means just that then but if your convicted anyone who can access public records can see conviction. Example I can go to my county courthouse website and see any current cases as well as past ones I need only simply type in name

Unless your current employer runs regular background checks you have nothing to worry about. There are a number of services, such as the National Theft Database, which retain records of apprehended shoplifters, regardless of prosecution. Many retailers and banks use these types of services to run pre employment background screenings. The only issue you would have is getting through a background check for a new job.
