My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Indiana
Hello, I'd like to fill you in on my background story before I ask my question. For a long time emancipation has been something I have considered. However, until a few months ago it was not something I was old enough to do. I am now 16 and a resident of Indiana. I am currently staying with my grandparents for the summer while my mother resides in her ex-husband's house and searches for houses. I have been in struggle for my independence with my mother stealing any money I earn, not allowing me a job, and not allowing me to forward my education. It has become more apparent that living in her custody is not in my best interest. This is where the idea of emancipation comes into play. I already have a plan, but I wondered if it was suitable and if a judge may or may not consider it appropriate to emancipate me. I just received my GED and am looking into furthering my education through the local college. I got a full time job a month and a half ago which pays around 800 per month plus the solid 150 or more I make doing microjobs on the computer (A consistent figure for the past 4 months). I plan to move into the house my father left me when he passed away. I won't be living for free by any means, because I will be paying taxes on the property as well as oil, electric and other necessities. I have money saved up to support me for about 2 months, if I assume it takes 1000 per month (I know that's a extra for security), in case I hit a rough spot. If I independently handle this living situation for 1-3 months do you think the judge will consider this good grounds for emancipation? I really feel as if I could properly handle this situation and since living with my grandparents I have insisted on paying for my own necessities and paying rent for the room I'm staying in. So far I have done well supporting myself, but I would not think to apply for emancipation until I have been in this living situation long enough. I would appreciate any tips you have to assist me in going through with this.
Thank you in advance and any extra information would be greatly appreciated.
