My question involves criminal law for the state of: WA
Hello, So I'm 19 years old. I got caught shoplifting at sears on items 40$ more or less. This is the first time I ever shoplifted and i have a completely clean record except for one speeding ticket awhile back. I feel extremely bad for my actions and stupidity. But now its time to face the consequences. I got stopped by two LP officers and got put into a room. They had me sign forms, took down my information and copied my id and had taken pictures of me and told me that i'm not allowed there for a whole year. The police officer then came and also took my info and id but he didnt handcuff me or take me to jail or anything more, he just escorted me out of the building and told me to wait for a court date in the mail for my hearing. What should i expect when i go to court? will they send me to jail then? and how long does this stay on my records? I have a very promising job that i'm laid off from right now and i'm in the process of getting rehired... will this go against that? and should i hire a lawyer to come with me to court???
