Default How to Get a Judgment Off of My Credit History Due to Ex-Roommate's Default on Rent

I lived with a roommate in an apartment for 1 year about 1 year ago. It was 'co-singed'.

My lease ended in August. Around May, landlord came to me saying that he did not receive April rent. Apparently, my roommate wrote a check, there was a problem, and it didnt get processed. So I told my roommate to check if the check was processed from his bank account and if April rent really didnt get processed, I told him to pay the rent. He said he will do it, but apparently he did not pay it. Ever since May, every month, the landlord contacted me saying that he still didnt receive April rent. I kept telling my roommate to check it, and in August, my roommate told me he took care of it. I also did not get contacted by the landlord, so I thought he actually paid the rent.

However, I found out today that I have bad credit score because he still did not pay the April rent. I paid the rent the every other month and my roommate was suppose to pay the rent the every other month. He wrote the check that didnt get processed and screwed me up. Is there anyway to fix/dispute my credit score?

There is no easy way except time to "fix" a credit score. Leases tend to have a clause in them that all leasees are "jointly and severally" responsible for the rent; in other words, the landlord/management doesn't care who pays the rent but rather just that it gets paid. Since it appears one of the months didn't the end result of such ended up on your credit report. Thus, there really is nothing for you to dispute.

I'm confused....you don't get a judgment just because one check went awry. If you have a judgment it means they took you to court (possibly you blew off appearing) and won against you. Once things are recorded on your credit history, despite what the spammer above will tell you it's never going away, it just gets marked as paid as agreed.

    flyingron..

I'm not a spammer (you might know me from other forums where I mainly respond to landlord issues); the article I attached was information provided by the Federal Trade Commission that reviews those scams claiming to repair damaged credit histories but also discusses how to repair mistakes on a credit report.

Gail - the spammer's comment was deleted, so that comment wasn't about you. (It's best to report spam, but otherwise to completely ignore it.)

Suggest the OP just wait .. it will drop off the credit report in time. And the payment issue IS an issue of the OP ... its the OP's responsibility to insure rent was actually paid.
