My question involves criminal law for the state of: Kansas. Ok. So I was drinking at an event away from home and my original ride left for a different party. I saw a couple of friends I knew, who were headed back where I was going so I got a ride with them. They were already drinking before I got there. I threw my cooler in the back of the truck and rode back. We got stopped, driver got a DUI, Passenger got MIC and I got contributing to a minor. All were over 18 but not 21. I am of age. I told them that I was just riding back with them because of my other ride left early but the police thought it was my beer they were drinking so I got a citation for contributing to a minor. I really don't feel like I should be charged with this but maybe it's one of those "guilty by association" things. I just wanted a ride home. Now I'm wondering what to do about this. Can I fight this? Should I get my own lawyer or take a court appointed lawyer? I'm just really worried right now. I don't have a lot of money and most of my paycheck goes to bills, rent and car payments. Please Help!!!
