Being Harassed and Stalked by Someone Out of State

Last year I moved to a new state with my husband after a friend of his tried to push his way into our relationship. He tried to convince me that my husband was cheating on me, offered me "proof" etc, but as soon as he started flirting with me I realized he was lying. We left the state because when I rejected his advances, he began spreading lies about me saying that I slept with him. This month marks 1 year since I've moved and he's been regularly harassing me since then. Sending messages on Facebook, I've closed and created new accounts but he always seems to find them even though I use an alias. Most recently he sent a message saying he's going to "expose what I did" in my home to "let everyone know who I am". I'm unsure of what this means. I've gone to police twice before about him but the cops here say it is the other state's responsibility and my home state says the opposite. All I've accomplished is getting one police officer to call him and say leave her alone but that did exactly nothing. He has also contacted my family multiple times. I have never responded to him. Just blocked him.

Sorry if this isn't posted in the correct forum. I would like to know what my options are.

Investigate harassment laws or a no contact order.

I can understand why you don't want to leave any information that could be even remotely identifiable, but state laws vary and without knowing what state you are on (and possibly what state he's in) there's really not a lot we can tell you.

Also want to note that in September 2012 he told people that my husband was divorcing me and had caught me having sex with his cousin, which were both untrue. He had also told multiple people I had had sex with another man which was untrue as well.

The first link is a comparison of the stalking laws in the six NE states (does not include NY, sorry); the second is the Maine statute and the third is the NY. Sorry, but I don't know which state's law apply in this case but someone else may.

Thank you cbg. I've been doing a bit if research and since he's attacked my chastity it appears that I could technically sue him for slander "per se" which is applicable in both states. When you sue someone, does it have to be for money or can it just be for making him leave me alone? After a year of this I'm tired and nothing I'm doing is sending him the message to leave me alone. I haven't even given any indication that he's "getting to me" and I haven't been "feeding the troll" so to speak. I think taking him to court would scare him away from me though as he's not a citizen and can't risk getting into legal trouble.
