Harassment, Slander, Threats Made by Text Message

My question involves defamation in the state of: My son was involved in a team game online known as Arma 3. When issues arose, my son decided to leave the group and informed them through TeamSpeak. The leader of the team or "clan" took my son's leaving personally and then began to harass my daughter by cellphone. We blocked him from making any further calls to all cellphones. He then resorted to calling my son's best friend. He told him that we as a family were mental unstable. He also texted the best friend that he wished he had threatened my son when he had the chance and that my daughter was "a fat c**t". This leader "Gunny" is in Alabama. What can we do to protect ourselves from further harassment?

If you've already blocked him, you've done all you can do. If he's calling/texting other people, it's on them to block him.

No, you don't have cause to sue. For that, you'd have to be able to prove monetary damages or real harm to your son's reputation. That's not the case, it's just some nutbar on the internet having a tantrum.
