My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Oregon
I was just served a small claims notice for a debt that I was not completely aware of. I guess my daughters were taken to the doctor while not in my custody and my name and insurance company were still listed with the clinic. I had moved from the town, the children no longer lived with me, and I had not carried that insurance and billing information for some time. I'm not sure why the billing information wasn't updated, but it's now 2 years later and I'm being served with a small claim notice.
Problem 1: I don't have the money to pay it within the 14 days, while I disagree that I should pay, I'm more than happy to satisfy the problem.. I just literally don't have the money at this time, but should within the next month or two.
Problem 2: I am not sure if I have good enough reason to dispute the claim. It was my daughter and they had been going to that clinic while we lived in that town. My information was on file and child custody judgment had not been made yet.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
