Default Proving a Name Change for Driver's License Renewal

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Florida & Georgia

I'm doing research for my Mom (she has no Google Fu) & I've become increasingly frustrated. I can find info on how to change your name but not to correct once changed. I'm hoping the below is able to be understood. My Mom was born in Georgia but all the legal stuff happened in Florida where she's lived for years.

My Mom was born Barbara but hated it & started going by Vanessa in her early 20s. She married my father and took his last name but they eventually divorced. Years later she married my stepdad. At the time her driver's license showed Barbara (my Dad's last name). She went to have a name change done to correct her first name AND have SDad's name put on too. She updated her social and driver's at the time but not her birth certificate.

Now she needs to renew her license in Florida but the laws have changed so she can't do it online like previously. So now we need a bunch of paperwork for her to renew. I'm trying to find out where to get an official copy of her name change to show it. It was done in Broward County between 1990-1995 (I don't remember when but I was in high school at the time). She doesn't have any case number info or etc on it so that's as specific as we've got. Also not sure if I can pick it up from courthouse (or wherever it is) or does she have to since it's her name.

Once we get that paperwork, we need to also find the form to update her birth certificate in Georgia with the name change from Barbara to Vanessa. Then we'll get a copy of the birth certificate to show that.

I know where to get the marriage certificate for her and my Stepdad to prove that part. She's got her social security card showing current name so that's covered too. I've spent a couple hours online looking but all I can find is how to apply for a name change & how to get an existing copy of a birth certificate.

From what I see you are looking for proof of the name change. That would be the court record. It would be available through the courthouse the action was taken in.

It appears Broward county has many websites. I did not get too far into them since I have none of the info needed to do any sort of search.

This is a link for a records search for the family and probate courts. That is likely the court involved.

    and then the Google search:\

I have already done a search on there & come up with nothing. I had previously searched for a record of mine a few months ago and found nothing as well, but the actual courthouse had the records. So I'm assuming anything more than 15-20 years ago doesn't show up online.

that's possible. Give the courthouse a call and ask them how to find an order from that long ago. They will likely have to search their physical archives for it.
