My question involves defamation in the state of: Illinois
An individual has made the false statement that I was stalking her and that I had placed notes on her car. This individual then told about 60 friends on her Facebook.com account that I was stalking her and had placed notes on her car. What had happened afterward, however, is that I had noticed people who I knew to be on her friends list to start given me uneasy looks in person. In one case, I was not allowed to go to a party because of her. As such, I had suffered personal injuries and emotional distress. It is believed that the individual acted with actual malice.
What is difficult to determine is if the 60 friends on Facebook is enough of an audience to make a false light claim. However, it does show that the statement was made as a public statement.
