Default Does a Permanent Resident Have to File U.S. Taxes After Moving to Another Country

I have a green card which I obtained a number of years ago. About 2 years ago, it expired, and I never renewed it. I do not plan to renew it ever.
I currently live in Canada as a permanent resident, work in Canada (Canadian income only, and file Canadian taxes), and I have never worked or lived in the US. A tax accountant has asked me whether I have a green card since I will be leaving Canada to work in another country, and I stated the above. The accountant told me that I may be non-compliant since I've never filed taxes in the US.

Is this true? Do I need to file taxes at any levels in the US?

The tax guy doesn't understand US laws. You need to be be both ELIGIBLE (green card test, which your expired green card wouldn't even qualify) and substantially present (which you were not).

    thanks for the quick reply
so even during the time it was still valid (i believe at that time I was a student in Canada, no income), I wouldn't have to file during that time?
so before I leave Canada permanently and work in my new country (not US), is there anything I need to do? do I need to officially give up my green card?

perhaps the tax consultant just wanted to charge my company for another hour of consultation fee

If you have never lived/worked in the US, how/why did you get a US green card?

    I'm asking for a reason.
