    Default Relocated then let go

I moved across the country and left a position of 16 years where I was considred to be "golden" to work for a North Carolina municipality. Before excepting the position I made several trips to the area (at my expense), had numerous correspondences, and a five hour interview with the Director to be sure that I was the guy they wanted for the position as I would be giving up a lot (seniority, family, financially). After numerous reassurances, I accepted the position and moved across the country at my own expense. I started the job and began to get things done. I established a good relationship with my crew and made proposals for improvements. As time passed I began to feel unwelcomed by the Director that hired me and his assistant. The closer I got with my crew and the more work I got done the more unwelcomed I felt. About a month into the job I was let go for "not fitting in". I feel that I was considered a threat due to my relationship with my crew, my work ethic, and extreme knowledge of the trade. Since my termination I have contacted the City Commissioner to let him know of the unfair and even unlawful things that are going on under this Director. I seem to have his ear but am wondering if I have any other legal grounds.

Unfortunately, there is not ordinarily any resourse for losing a job for "not fitting in".

Should I get a Lawyer and see what we can come up with? It was a government job to a government job.

Government employers sometimes offer grievance procedures and other procedures which they are supposed to follow before terminating a worker, and it couldn't hurt to have a lawyer review your situation to see if any of your rights were violated or if you have a cause of action based upon any improper procedure which may have been followed by your employer.
