I live in Illinois and recently received a phone call from a collection agency for medical bills from 2000. They stated that they would sue if we do not start making an attempt to pay. I have two questions, since they happened in 2000 are they trying a last attempt before the medical bills just become write offs? My other question is if I was to pay say, $10-$20 a month, could that possibly hurt my credit? I have read that by paying on old accounts just opens them up again and can affect your credit.
Worried in Illinois.
