My question involves an eviction in the state of: Washington, DC
I have some questions regarding the eviction procedure in DC. I wasn't able to pay my rent for April (and now May). I received a summons and have to appear in court this week. My landlord said that if I pay my rent before the court date, that the case would be dropped. If I'm unable to pay my rent by that date, what could happen in court? Will they grant me more time to pay my rent or will they set a date that I have to surrender the apartment? How long will I have from the court date to pay or move? If I pay after the court date, can I stay in the same building or do I have move at the point regardless?
Thank you
