Caught With Marijuana at Age 17

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Delaware

So last monday I was caught in a parking lot with almost a gram of marijuana. One of the cops put me in the back of the cop car uncuffed and started questioning my name etc. while the other cop searched my car. They said I was cooperative so they didnt want to take me in. Im 17 years old btw. They called my step mom and asked if she wanted me to go in or get released under her custody. She told them to release me. So they rolled the back window down so I could open the car door and walk back over to my car. They followed me back to my house so my step mom could sign a paper to release me.

I am wondering what might happen to me? I got a paper in the mail saying I have court on the 15th and the charge is possesion of marijuana. One thing I did notice is they didnt read off the miranda rights to me at all.

Contrary to what you see on TV, Miranda rights are required only when you are in police custody AND they are planning to interrogate you AND use what you say in the interrogation in court. They don't need to give you your Miranda rights before they ask your name.

This is juvenile court, then? Then the outcome depends on your community, school, home, work (if applicable) and past criminal records, as well as whether the judge, prosecutor or probation officer thinks you're likely to refrain from using drugs.

Your best bet is to hire a lawyer and attempt to get into a diversion program that will end and you will be released from, before age 18.
