My question involves personal property located in the State of: Virginia
My neighbors decided to throw a party. Someone from that party broke into my home around 2AM, broke my lock, and when confronted verbally identified himself with that group. I kicked him out and went back to sleep. The next morning, I found several items missing, such as an ipod, my car keys, cologne, camera, etc. iPod costs about $200, camera about $250, car keys will be $250 to replace, etc. So a substantial amount of money is lost just to recover from the theft.
When I discussed the issue with the neighbors, they said it was not their responsibility and that I have no proof that the individual came from their party. I contacted more authorities, filed a police report, etc. Since they found this out, they now say it IS someone from their party, but still do not owe anything and will not give me the name of the person who broke into my home. They know who it is, but don't want to get them in trouble. I just want my stuff back or some compensation.
Can I take anyone to court for this? Theft or obstruction of justice?
