My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas
We just moved into a home about two weeks ago, and while we have provided all payments and paperwork required by the lease (and have a signed lease), the broker / property manager has not removed the lockbox on the front door. He has said multiple times that he will remove it, but has not done so. The last time he said he would come out and remove it was about 6 days ago. The only mention of a lockbox in the lease is for the last 30 days of the lease if we do not agree to renew, this tells me the lockbox is there unlawfully. The property is NOT listed on the MLS, but to me that's neither here nor there.
What recourse do I have? Can I remove the lock on the front door (thereby also removing the lockbox)? Can I withhold rent until it is removed?
