Question How Likely Will the Hospital Work Out a Payment Plan

    Long story short:

Jan. 2012, had procedure, was covered under medicare....I paid copay, claim was paid out & settled by March.

(I was married in Sept. 2011, was going on husband's ins., tried to cancel medicare ins., Sept.2011, never heard anything about it when I called about cancellation forms I signed for months. By Dec. 2011, I decided just to keep medicare and not cancel, since 3 months had gone by and not cancelled yet. Had procedure Jan.2012.....May 2012, my cancellation forms (from Sept.) are processed and not only do they cancel me? They cancel me Dec,31,2011 [end of coverage year] And get all the money from all doctors, labs, hospital they already paid out, back.) By the way, tried to handle the medicare ins. problem for over a year, with no one caring about it or giving me any info.

I've been working & paying for last year & half to settle with doctors, labs, etc....just got the $6000 hospital bill, they deducted $3000 for being uninsured. I want to settle & pay....how likely will they work with me to deduct more & do payments?

Any advice? I don't want it to be a bad debt.

Call and talk (or better yet, go in person). They will very likely work with you on a payment plan.

Well, I called and good news is they worked out a payment plan....bad news?I have to pay full $3200 amount.

They really didn't care I had insurance and the claim was already paid and there was a screw up along the line....they said they already gave a 45% discount for uninsured & I have to pay the rest.

No, it's fine...just bummed I have to pay the full $3200. When medicare paid on the claim, then asked the money back, it was $1400....so I was 'hoping' to strike a deal and pay a lump sum of $1500 or $1600.

But, it's better than them wanting the full $6000! I am just bummed the way medicare just dropped me and retro canceled me back to before the procedure.....but it's my fault for trying to cancel way back in Sept....so, it is what it is.
