International Student Caught Stealing

My question involves criminal law for the state of:

I am an international student , 26 years old and was caught shoplifting in NYC today for worth $30.
They took my name, address, phone number, physical features details and a picture. Also made me sign a paper.
They said I am banned from the store. However, they didnt mention anything about the fine or civil letter.

My question is will they still send me a letter for fine? I dont live at the address I provided. I provided my old address of NJ. Also, there is noone to keep a tab of the mails that I come in my name. ANd I am moving to CA next week for job prospects. I want to know will be I send a letter and how do i find out about it.

Goes without saying, this is never going to happen again. This was my first time and I screwed it.

Please advise. I am very worried. My mind is everywhere.

You should expect a letter from a "law firm" representing HM asking for the demand. It's possible that it won't happen, but it's quite possible that it is. They're not responsible for telling you that they intend to do this. You also may end up getting charged criminally.

You had better contact them by phone with a correct address. If the Civil Demand is not paid, they may file criminal charges, and if you miss the court citation they can issue a warrant for your arrest.
