Default Re: Possession of a Controlled Substance, Cited Twice for One Incident

I was cited the first time by a Grand Canyon national park service park Ranger for Posession of a controlled substance on March 3rd. I went online and paid the ticket. It was $325. On March 21st a National park service park ranger came to my work and wrote me another ticket dated march 3rd not march 21st for discharging a firearm in a residental area. This ticket is $275. I have not paid it yet. It is another mail in ticket. Sorry I dont have the exact statutes. The whole story was I was cleaning my gun in my apt in the national park at the Grand Canyon. My cousin was with me. He had the gun and didnt check it and it fired. The Rangers came into my apt and found that not only was there a firearm discharged but my cousin left some marijuana out. I took the blame and because they said I cooperated theyd let me off with a ticket for posession of a controlled substance(marijuana). Later on March 21st the park rangers came to my work and told me their supervisor said they were a little to leinient and had to cite me again. I recieved another ticket for discharging a firearm in a residental area. Does that sound legal? my attourney said they cant cite me again but I just want to make sure.

Double jeopardy applies only to being tried. They can cite, arrest or charge more than once.

If the question is, "Can the park service dismiss a ticket I haven't paid and then issue a new ticket for a more serious offense," the answer is "yes".

If the question is, "If I am caught committing two crimes, and am only charged with one crime, can I later be charged with the second crime I committed," the answer is also "yes". Possession of a controlled substance and unlawful discharge of a firearm are two different crimes.
