My question involves criminal law for the state of: MA
Last night my girlfriend got blackout drunk and we had just got back to a college campus into my friends room. It was just me and her in the room and since she was so drunk she got angry over something very menial and made no sense to be angry about. She then started to be disrespectful and I went to leave. She wanted me to stay so she grabbed my face and upper neck area so I would listen because I was angry. I remained angry and she told me to leave so I left. She then called me multiple times to take her home because she was stuck on the campus by herself in somebody else's room and ha no ride.
I eventually agreed after being gone for about 45 minutes to come back an take her home because she was screaming on the phone and I didn't want we to get in trouble for being so loud. When I came back she was even worse. We got into another argument she again grabbed my face and upper neck to talk even though she was so drunk she wasn't making sense. I was yelling at her and she punched me on the side of the face but not very hard. I then grabbed both of her wrists and pushed her towards the bed because she just hit me. Then I was walking to the door to leave and he was coming towards me and fell and hit we head into the wall. I continued to open the door to the hallway and tree was already a public safety officer there. I told her to go into the room and not long after campus police arrived my girlfriend was still in the floor of the room and I was in the hallway with a police officer. I heard her saying that I hit her and was the one that pushed we into a wall and I knew I had to tell the correct story so I wouldn't get in trouble for a lie. I later made a statement to the campus police and explained pretty much what I had just typed except I did not tell them how I was swearing and being angry with her before she hit me and I was so mad I said she put her hands on my neck but didn't explain that she meant no harm. My girlfriend went to the hospital and got a concussion and my friend was able to get her out later at about 130 in the morning. I took her to the campus police to get her things and they had her make a statement an made me leave her there. While she was there they said the school was going to press charges for domestic violence; earlier I told them I would not press charge, but I understand the college can. She also is banned from campus for 2 years, so she can't go to school and that is her life, she was valedictorian in high school and is president of international honor society in college. We have known each other for a year and a half and have been dating for 6 and a half months and this is the first time this has happened between us. I want to help her out so that she doesn't get in trouble because that is the last thing I want. She will be a wreck without school to go to and she is also on probation. She has just recently been diagnosed with PTSD and battered woman syndrome from and abusive four year relationship she had gotten out of over the summer.
I know she is a good person and would never mean to hurt me especially if she had been sober. I want to know if there is anything I can do that will get these punishments lifted because even though she messed up once last night she doesn't deserve for her life to be ruined because of one drunk night especially with the emotional instability that she literally just started therapy for. Basically I want to know if I go to the campus police and explain that this isn't like her she didn't mean to harm me I was just so angry I made it seem worse than it was and also tell them that I sort of egged her on to hit me. I technically told the truth in the statement but was so angry left some things out. My girlfriend does not remember what happened in the room and just remembers being carried out in a stretcher. She also was never arrested if that makes any difference. I want to do anything I can to make sure she doesn't get these punishments because I do love her and know everyone makes mistakes and this was a one time thing. Doesn't anyone see a way that I can help her idk if this a confusing situation because it was on a college campus and nobody was arrested. Also she has the option to appeal the 2 year suspension if she were could I go with her and explain and be there in her side. Any advice is greatly appreciated on the best way to go about this.
