The law doesn't state that your parent can force you to stay home. If you choose to leave home at seventeen and your parent calls the police, the police won't force you back home. They will, however, make you call home to tell the parent where you are and you're fine.

My teen tried to leave home and not return and went to a friend. I contacted Police I then found out where he was. Police returned him home and gave him option of a foster care or home. He chose home that was aone time event and since that day we have weekly family meetings (all 7 of us) to discuss family issues. It has worked wonders. However Police did return my son home but did give him that option explaining he didnt get to decide to stay with friend it was home or foster care
