Question Lying to Get Out of a Civil Demand

My question involves criminal law for the state of: californa
So I made I big mistake on shoplifts at a store called urban outfitter but the only thing the worker got from me was my name, address and my cell phone number and its a prepaid phone and its not under my name the phone
I just showed them my school I'd for like 3 years ago all they told me was that I was Guna get a civil Demond notice She had me sign a trespass note and . No police was involved and this is my first offense and I am 18.
Can I have someone call and say that they got the civil Demond letter and say they got the wrong address for I won't have to pay. And I don't have that phone anymore I didn't pay the bill so they have no way of contacting me
    What should I do?

You can certainly try that, but it most likely won't work. Cell phones aren't IDs, it was purely for convenience. If the address you gave them was correct, that's all they need to sue you. If it wasn't chances are they can still hunt you down.

Good luck with trying to avoid the Civil Demand. It just might make the LP people annoyed enough to turn over the file to the police for criminal charges.
